Refined rebellion served up by the women and men of Dsquared2. Roaming in the garage studio by day, creative territory where new tracks are mixed and video games coded, to the underground disco hidden beyond the back door of an inner-city diner.
Rooted in a sub culture that ruled the streets of London and New York in the 70s and 80s, the Dsquared2 Resort 2019 collection takes shape through the brand’s lens. Modern, sleek fabrics combine with signature Dsquared2 silhouettes and key visual codes of the movement: zippers, rings, mesh and bondage straps detail the pieces in an unexpected romantic and elegant way.
Check and striped patterns in red-and-black are reinterpreted in streetwear style pieces. Mini dresses are tough and taut, with an exposed zip at the front; or looser sweater-style knitted with thick stripes. Cropped narrow pants and jackets feature check nylon and leather inserts, embellished with patch pockets and thermo-sealed tape.
Clean men’s outerwear has a provocative finish: a classic camel coat reveals an oversized Dsquared2 logo printed on the side, while parkas, jackets and bombers are constructed with red-and-black check or smooth leather. Throughout the men’s line- up, a textured branded rubber tab is attached to a zip pull or worked as an outside tag on a shirt or a pant.
Poster style prints of the reimagined faces of Dean and Dan Caten and provoking phrases—including ‘Touch & Die’—form sophisticated shiny textures that appear multi-dimensional on T-shirts, pants and buttoned shirts. Layered fabrications are seamless: a print on a T-shirt dress is covered with georgette chiffon and trimmed with a strip of vinyl. Peekaboo zips sultrily sit across the shoulders to open to black mesh.
Applied to military cuts, the collection’s theme explores new glamor ground. Black Chantilly lace peeks out of dresses and skirts, and is appliquéd onto long coats together with bondage straps and rings. Military style for men is ultra-tough. Oversized coats in military green and camouflage with belted pockets and maxi Dsquared2 vertical logo are standout outerwear designed for urban streets.
Leather is a requisite for the collection’s attitude. Double-zipped leather pieces are a subtle play on Dsquared2’s duality that also channels the rule-breaking spirit. Linked with a chain, the zips start from the waist band of a low rise cropped leather pant and the two sides of a leather jacket. Stirring moody allure, long black leather women’s coats are either thermo-sealed with contrast white leather trim or finished with ring pulls. For the nights at the club, there’s supple silver leather bombers, and hot pink leopard print velvet pants and jackets. Denim, Dsquared2’s other coveted material comes in an intense acid wash jagged down the legs of jeans or in bright red, ripped and frayed yet layered so no skin is exposed.
Shirts are stacked into diverse men’s looks. Printed, patchwork, or spliced with zips, they are worn with knotted neck scarves, and a new pant cut with double pleats and high waist. An evening shirt is appliquéd with black vinyl ruching and lace—worn with a bowtie swinging with a padlock. A new men’s jacket also embodies the look of the era the collection was inspired: a boxy shoulder shape, double or single breasted with slightly cropped sleeves.
Smoothing out the spiky edges of Dsquared2’s squad, accessories are crafted in clean, slick leathers: ankle strap stilettos and pill and shaped bags, and for men black ankle boots and leather hiking boots with tonal laces.
