How to add volume to your hair

So let’s be honest, having a perfect hairstyle gives us more confidence. But there’s probably been occasions when you’ve struggled to achieve the hairstyle you desire.

Therefore in this article today, I’m going to walk you through adding volume to your hair by following just 6 simple steps.

Step 1: Wet your hair
So the first step is simple, simply wash your hair. It’s easier to add volume with your hair being wet. Make sure to rinse your hair properly and choose a good shampoo and conditioner. Getting old product out of your hair and having your hair will help in styling your hair easily.

Step 2: Gently towel dry your hair
Pretty basic right? Use to a towel to part dry hair but remember… We’re not completely drying it with the towel. All you’re doing here is drying your hair slightly, making sure it’s damp for when we start styling.

Step 3: Add a volumizer
This step is important if you’re looking to add volume, add a volumizing pre-style to your hair. Now there’s a lot out there on the market, from texturizing foams to mouses.

Spend a few seconds just brushing my hair into the style you want to achieve and then apply the volumizer. Use more products on the areas you want to volume such as the front of your hair.

Step 4: Blow dry your hair
It’s the only way you’re going to truly add volume to your hair. It’s blow drying it into the desired hairstyle.

I remember back when I used to never blow dry my hair, I used to cape so much product on to try and get my hair into the correct style but all it did make my hair look greasy.

Blow drying your hair will add volume and also allow you to use less product.

Set the hair dry to medium heat, max speed and blow dry your hair to the direction you want it to end up in. You want to spend a bit of time on this step so blow dry your hair in different directions until your hair is completely dry. Then once it’s dry, switch from hot to cold and this is going to simply add more volume.

Step 5: Apply the product
Now in the tutorial I’m using some Matt clay, but when styling your hair it’s important to know that you don’t need a lot of product. Sometimes using too much product weighs your hair down not giving you that desired volume.

Apply a small amount to your finger and rub it into the palm of your hand, warm up the product by rubbing your hands together. Apply it to your hair again focusing on the areas you want to add more volume to.

You should have already done the majority of the styling with the blow drying, so this tip is all about perfecting your hair into place.

Step 6: Apply hair spray
Last but not the least, you can apply hair spray to your hair for extra hold if needed. This will also make the hairstyle last for a longer period of time.

Hair spray helps in creating your desired hairstyle and volume.
